Chapter Six:

If what just happened hadn’t happened, I would probably try to explain the next few hours of My Story, My Life using a Lagrangian-like approach. That’s a physics term. Lagrangian. One of my favorites now that I think about that.

But then again, my explanation would be meaningless outside the context of what just happened. Funny how context matters so much. “I’ll have to remember to remember that. Much like how a fake smile sticks like gum while real smiles spread like waves through the AIP’s eyes and up to the forehead,” I might have whispered. But I can’t. Not now.

And I probably would have also laughed because that’s funny, the irony so obvious to me in this space even though in linear time it is also meaningless, that I just gave myself some really crucial foreshadowing. And if I can give myself foreshadowing, thus being as clever a reader and anagram solver or Infinity Chess player as I am, I would realize that…some part of me already knows how this story ends. Hold on. I need to chew on that little bit of Lagrangian candy for a moment. Some part of me already knows how this story ends. Of course, I also couldn’t laugh because the idea never would have previously entered my mind in linear time. How could it? Yet here we are…so it must have.

And here as my mind figuratively explodes, I digress even further with another analogy using Infinity Chess War. It’s exactly like primitive chess, only you play eight superimposed boards that move in multiple simultaneous directions through space, the pieces moving through multiple boards at once like an old Rubik’s cube but far, far more complicated. And thus…far, far more stimulating to math and physics junkies like me.

It’s like I am playing a chess match where I see the way out only after the way out is made…thus making my favorite game’s name suddenly appropriate for the first time. Infinity Chess War. Names being so important, as if they predetermine the course of events destined to the named before the story even gets started—guess the game’s name is no different. Mary, now I know.

So…before my chess partner plays his particular piece in this imaginary game I make into an analogy to explain how I can explain what just happened to me while it is still happening to me, I’m trapped. Checkmate official on one board—let’s just say, the lowest board. And since we are playing boards not only stacked top to bottom but also right to left—eight boards in each direction to be specific—each piece is playing in boards in multiple different directions at the same time. It can get dangerously exciting fast. Why? Often you can’t truly understand the implications of a move you are making until you’ve already made it. But on the lowest board, after eight hours of playing eight boards in eight directions, I’m finally going “down.” Not that the direction matters. I was just using an expression, not making a directional statement.
